English	I felt that nowadays people are swimming in overflowing of digital information, and thought we need to get out of it for a while and have a time to empty the uselessly filled stuffs in mind. BIUM can be disconnected itself periodically and give users experience of emptiness by a form of 'incense'. As data of Internet is used, lighting of BIUM goes dark and is finally turned off. User can reboot it by putting smartphone on it, and until the lighting is fully turned on he gets in a state of totally disconnected to the world around him. When Internet is reconnected, he can go back to routine with more refreshed condition than before.
Native	‘BIUM’ 은 마음을 비우고 정신을 다스리는 불교 정신에서 착안한 디자인의 공유기로, ‘공(空)’ 의 마음가짐을 통해 현대 사회에서 일어나는 문제를 해결해보고자 했습니다. 하루가 다르게 발전하는 디지털 사회 속에서 넘쳐나는 정보들로 인해 점점 현대인들이 ‘과부화’ 되어가고 있음을 느꼈고, 과도하게 채워진 것들을 때때로는 속세에서 벗어나 비워낼 필요성이 있다고 생각했습니다. ‘BIUM’ 은 자체적, 주기적으로 인터넷의 연결을 차단시킴으로써 사용자에게 비움의 시간을 제공하고, 향을 모티브로 한 인터랙션을 통해 비움의 정도를 나타내는 공유기입니다. 사용자가 인터넷을 사용함에 따라 공유기의 불빛은 점점 어두워지며, 사용량이 한계치에 도달할 경우 스스로 '비움' 상태에 돌입하게 됩니다. 스마트폰을 위에 올려둠으로써 BIUM을 재부팅시킬 수 있고, 불이 다시 켜지기까지의 시간 동안 정신적, 물리적으로도 완벽히 속세와 떨어져 있는 경험을 제공합니다. 인터넷이 다시 연결되면 사용자는 전보다 더 가벼워진 마음으로 일상에 복귀할 수 있습니다.
