English	Sightseeing train ‘SETSUGEKKA’ replaced the walls with huge windows for the grand view of ocean and mountains in Niigata, Japan. So as to be a new symbol of the area, it was colored vermillion glowing with natural landscape. As for the interiors, the furniture and walls were made of domestic natural lumber. Although it consists of only 2carriages and 45seats, its rail travel gives you blissful time and marvelous view of the local scenery from the largest train window in Japan you have never seen before. Since train is one of the most influential presentations by the local, it can be the first step of local design innovation in Asian future.
Native	えちごトキめき鉄道株式会社は北陸新幹線開業に伴い、新潟県内の旧北陸本線と旧信越本線の並行在来線を引き継いだ第三セクター経営方式の鉄道である。沿線には妙高山や日本海の絶景が広がるが、近隣の金沢や富山、長野と比較して観光の集客力アップが課題であったことから、新潟県や沿線自治体では観光列車「えちごトキめきリゾート雪月花」の導入が計画された。沿線風景の新しいシンボルになって欲しいという意図を込めて、風景の中で映えるよう真っ赤な銀朱色のボディに染め上げた。わずか2両編成、定員45名という小さな列車だが、妙高山や焼山、日本海などの絶景を楽しんで頂けるよう、天井まで伸びる日本最大級の側窓を備え、床の高さを変えて、お客様に今まで見たこともない車窓を提供したい。観光列車は、美しい車窓の演出が最重要だ。乗る度に異なる体験を提供してリピーターを生むため、日本海側を向いた席、カフェテラス風の席、大きなテーブルを備えた食堂車風の席、世界唯一の前面展望ハイデッキ個室などバラエティに富んだ座席配置とした。すべての座席やテーブルは天然国産木材を使用し、新幹線グリーン車並みの専有面積と居住性を確保した。車内では、地酒や地ワイン、沿線の食材を詰め込んだフランス料理や日本料理を提供している。内装には、金色に磨き上げられた燕三条地域の金物加工品、鉄道車両では史上初となる安田瓦の床材、越後杉など県内各地の地場産業が参加し、メイド・イン・オール新潟県の鉄道車両となった。
