"Stacking"- if we focus on this word and look at our surroundings, we realise that there is a wide variety of "stacking". This research is based on the idea of finding new possibilities and values in this act of stacking, and proposal for a stool that has an unprecedented "stacking" element and creates new values in it. "m stool" is a stacking stool that can be used not only for sitting or stacking, but also as a desk and chair, or even as a shelf. "m stool" eliminates the boundary between use and non-use and adds an element of interiority, it becomes an element of space and creates space.

積み重ねることを意味する「スタッキング」、この言葉に着目し、今一度私たちの身の回りを見てみると、そこには多種多様な積み重ね方が存在していたことに気づかされる。本研究はこの積み重ねるという行為に新しい可能性や価値を見出すため、今までにない「スタッキング」の要素を持ち、そこに新しい価値を創り出すスツールの提案である。まず初めに、日々の生活の中に存在する多種多様な積み重ね方の事例収集を行なった。それらをもとにプロトタイピングを重ね、様々な積み重ね方の可能性を探り、「余白のスタッキング」という今までにない積み重ね方を生み出した。『m stool』は座る、積み重ねて収納するといった使い方に加え、机と椅子、時には棚としてなどと使用者が何かに見立て、創造し、使うことのできる使い方に余白性を内包したスタッキングスツールである。既存のスタッキングスツールが持つ、座るために使用し、使わなくなれば積み重ねて収納できるという機能は残しつつ、「余白」を積み重ねることができる要素を併せ持つことで、使う時と使わない時の境界を曖昧にし、更に、見立てて使うことでインテリアとしての可能性を拡げ、空間の構成要素となり、そして空間を創り出すことを可能とした。
