English | With almost 70% of the Indian population living in the rural areas, each year, about 7.8 million babies are born with low birth weight (under 2.5kg), resulting in a 20% infant mortality rate. The simple hand held device, ASHA combines a low maintenance solar-powered digital weighing scale, a built-in non-touch infrared thermometer and a personal blanket. Measurements are noted down and documented directly on the blanket. This simple but innovative solution will not only help reduce infant mortality rate but also give credibility to the women (ASHA- Accredited Social Heath Activists) in their important task of ensuring on time care. |
