Chengdu East Gate wharf, developed in the Tang and Song dynasties of China, was one of the five major wharves in Chengdu at that time, and even developed into the "most prosperous and important business area in the city" in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. However, in the last round of reconstruction of the old city, this historical area was completely demolished and rebuilt. Today, the East Gate wharf is only vaguely marked with the word "East Gate wharf".
In terms of design, from the perspective of urban design, activate the functional requirements of the wharf and create a fresh, interactive and experiential urban public space.

成都东门码头，发展于中国唐宋朝时期，为当时成都五大码头之一，至清朝与民国时期，更发展成为 “全城最繁华、最重要”的商贸区域。然而，在上一轮的旧城改造中，这一历史区域被完全拆除重建，如今，东门码头只剩下依稀的“东门码头”字样来标识它的位置。
设计上，从城市设计的角度出发，激活码头的功能性需求，并创造一种鲜活、交互、可体验的城市公共空间。
空间策略上，在依稀可见的码头遗迹上通过对周边居民楼裙楼（原商业空间）的回收与再利用，形成现有码头文化空间雏形。同时，整合原有码头及码头周边资源，让主体建筑改造、码头原址再利用与河道游船项目相结合，打造可持续、整体、沉浸的情境式码头空间，并与现代都市商圈、生活圈接轨的城市文化体验公共空间。
建筑设计上，以曾经东门码头及周边建筑原型为依据，利用主体建筑植入地域性建筑元素，对码头主体建筑重新规划业态的同时，通过建筑的双表皮、周边景观设计（水帘屏等）实现了水岸市井的码头场景。
结构材料上，轻质的钢结构与玻璃幕墙成为项目建筑改造的主要造型材料，重现千年码头的场景上使用了LED透明屏幕、水帘屏、投影设备、光彩照明等的整体设计与一体化施工，使整个建筑在夜晚产生有别于白天的沉浸感，极大程度上再现了东门码头当年的繁华场景，也营造了吸引市民、游客参与体验的城市公共空间。
