We want to keep constant distance from others unconsciously. This instinctive desire is called Personal Space. But many Asian countries have social problems such as high population density and housing poverty. This means that people want to the space where they can rest alone. So I devised a product that can recognize individual space by other people, using only frame. The ‘Han pyeong’, which means the smallest space, is a DIY partition. It can be assembled with nine structures. And there are six functions of lighting, speaker, flowerpot, storage, hanger and air freshener. It will be made with various structures according to the users.

우리는 무의식적으로 타인들로부터 일정한 거리를 유지하고 싶어 한다. 이러한 본능적인 욕구를 personal space라 일컬으며, 이 공간이 침범 당했을 때 불쾌함을 느낀다. 현재 아시아의 여러 나라는 영토에 비해 높은 인구밀도, 어려운 경제로 인한 주거 빈곤 등과 같은 사회적 문제를 겪고 있다. 이는 personal space가 필요하다는 뜻이기도 하다. 즉, 사람들은 혼자 쉴 수 있는 영역을 필요로 하고 있다. 하지만 그 개인적인 영역이 기존 제품들처럼 시야를 차단하여 폐쇄적인 공간을 형성하는 방식일 필요는 없다. 따라서 어릴 적 책상에 금을 그어 친구와 나의 영역을 구분했던 경험에서 영감을 얻어, 경계선만으로 개인의 영역임을 알릴 수 있는 제품을 고안해냈다. 가장 작은 공간을 의미하는 ‘한 평’은 눈에 보이지 않는 타인과의 경계를 가시화함으로써 personal space를 구축하는 DIY 파티션이다. 경계가 되는 프레임은 원목 봉과 황동 엘보로 총 9가지 구조로 조립 가능하며, 조명, 스피커, 화분, 수납, 행거, 방향제 6가지의 기능이 있다. 사용자의 기호에 맞게 다양한 구조로 만들어지는 '한 평'을 통해 진정한 personal territory를 구축할 뿐만 아니라 삶의 여유 또한 찾을 수 있을 것이다.
