While traditional botanical specimens have been of limited uses such as educational materials or mania’s collections, PLANTS TRADE dares to bring the possibilities of specimens to more ordinary consumers. They apply their own beautiful presentation style which is preserving natural plants between thin plate glasses. To articulate the creator’s philosophy as well as the languages from nature behind the product, we designed this Concept Book. It features multiple photographs and graphics which are printed in letterpress thus all unique in color and texture, just like natural plants are so.

PLANTS TRADEは、これまで研究や教育の資料、もしくは愛好家のコレクションでしかなかった”植物標本”を、より多くの人にとって身近な存在にしようと試みているメーカーです。その手法は、薄い硝子板に植物を封じ込めるという、まったく新しい独自のスタイルです。本書PLANTS TRADE Concept Bookは、そんな彼らが標本制作に込めた思想や、植物標本に秘められた「生命からの言葉」をグラフィック・写真で視覚化し、植物標本に対する人々の興味を喚起することを目的に制作されました。また本書は、PLANTS TRADEが制作する硝子の植物標本と全く同じサイズで作られています。なお、すべてのグラフィックを活版印刷で一枚一枚印刷しているため、自然界の植物と同様に、二つと同じ色合いや風合いが存在しない、唯一無二の仕上がりであることも本書の特徴です。
