This project started from a project brief fora ceramics exhibition space that would capture the spirit of Gaya pottery. The design was inspired by the shape of the clay being molded on the potter’s wheel. Various elements such as the door, public square, main exhibition space and bridge open and close to interconnect the exterior and interior spaces in an attempt to represent the dynamic process of making a ceramic work of art.

클레이아크 김해 미술관은 “가야토기의 선과 분청사기의 빛, 가야도공의 혼을 형상화한 도예전시관”이라는 주제로 주변도시의 흐름과 자연녹지을 잇는 형태로 계획하였다.
물레위에 오려진 도자기 형태를 모티브로한 클레이아크 김해 미술관은 원형의 아트리움을 갖는 중심성을 갖는 공간형태로 계획하였다. 아트리움으로 떨어지는 빛은 시간의 흐름에 따라 공간의 깊이를 느끼게 해준다. 미술관을 비롯하여 도자기 빚는 손을 은유한 진례도자점, 문, 광장, 회랑, 중정, 상징공간, 브릿지 등 다양한 요소가 열리고 닫히면서 연결되는 내/외부 공간은 수비, 토련, 성형, 조각, 초벌구이, 재벌구이로 이어지는 도자기 제작과정까지 함축적으로 담아내도록 계획하였다.
