Suwon Hwaseong is a representative modern fortress in Korea. From the appearance of the fortress surrounding city, we can feel the flexibility of tradition combining the past and the present. Locating naturally in the middle of the modern city, Hwaseong stands for coexistence beyond the times, which is also the identity of nowaday Hwaseong Fortress. The solid formative beauty is another feature of Suwon Hwaseong. Therefore, "coexistence" and "formative aesthetic” were used as graphic motifs. To implicitly emphasize the formative feature, pictograms were used. This project suggests promotional materials using the derived graphic images.

수원화성은 1796년 축성된 한국의 대표적인 근대 성곽 건축물입니다. 수원시 팔달구를 둘러싼 성곽의 모습에서 우리는 문화재로서의 역사적 가치뿐만 아니라 과거와 현재가 어우러지는 유연한 전통성을 느낍니다. 현대적 도시 한 가운데에 과거의 원형을 그대로 간직한 채 자연스럽게 위치한 수원화성은 시대를 뛰어넘은 공존을 의미하며, 이는 현재를 살아가는 수원화성이 갖는 정체성이기도 합니다. 단단한 조형미는 수원화성의 또 다른 특징입니다. 합리적, 실용적 가치를 추구하며 화강암과 벽돌로 쌓아 올린 성벽, 그리고 그 성곽을 따라 축조된 마흔여 개의 성문과 방어시설이 주는 견고한 안정감은 수원화성만의 미적 특징입니다. 이에 ‘공존’과 ‘조형미’를 그래픽 모티브로 삼았으며, 수원 화성을 구성하는 건축물 중 스케일이 가장 크고 상징적인 팔달문을 로고 심볼로 설정하였습니다. 현대적인 기법으로 조형의 특징과 견고한 이미지를 함축적으로 표현하기 위해 픽토그램을 활용하였으며, 도출된 그래픽을 이용하여 지도, 리플렛, 티켓 등 문화재 홍보자료를 제작한 프로젝트입니다.
