We renovated the office of a local coffee beans store. We trying to establish a small economic network bearing the responsibility of all processes of timber—from design to sawing, processing and selling timber—by maximizing the old community around timber in the area. The client, the architect and those who helped us provide timber knew each other. In this town, a community has been already established around timber but the community has been weakened in an aging society. However, we have noticed recently that a new generation has entered and reactivated the community.

コーヒー豆屋の新オフィス改修計画を依頼された。この物件で使用する木材をこの地域に活動拠点を置く木材コーディネーターに相談すると、知り合いの材木屋さんが材料を手配し、すぐ近所の木材加工所で加工して納品された。施主も設計者も木材を手配してくれる人たちも、みんな顔見知りである。私たちはこの地域に古くからある木材を通じたコミュニティを最大限に活かしつつ、デザインから製材、加工、販売までを担う「小さな経済圏」を構築しようとしている。大きな経済が動くわけではないが、小さいながらも信頼できる取引が営まれている。このまちでは、木材を通じたコミュニティがすでに形成されていたが、高齢化ととともにそれは希薄化しつつあった。しかし近年、このコミュニティに新たな世代が組み込まれ、活気づいてきたと実感している。
