Hello, I’m Yang Tzu-Ying, the Design Director of MADE GO DESIGN in Taiwan. I’ve been working in interior design for 17 years and founded MADE GO DESIGN to create a harmony between creativity and functionality. We specialize in interior design, transforming ordinary spaces into unique environments that reflect each client’s vision and lifestyle. A home is a place to grow, reflect, and rest. We apply our “7:3 Design Principle”—seven points focused on daily living and three on design—to maximize space and create environments that are both aesthetically pleasing and practical. Our clients often tell us that our designs evoke a sense of warmth. Finding something special within a warm and comfortable space is at the heart of our design philosophy.

Please introduce a signature project.

One of our signature projects is “Silver Snow in the Afternoon,” a residential design for a family of three. We strategically placed the living room, dining area, and study in sunlit zones, while the remaining areas were designated as private spaces. Reflecting the daughter’s passion for baking, we designed a special open-plan kitchen. The 132-square-meter home, surrounded by park greenery and with natural light on three sides, initially had an irregular layout that created inefficient spaces. We restructured the entire plan to expand the kitchen and bedroom, improve traffic flow, and even added a dedicated area for their three cats.

The key challenge was to rebalance the layout to enhance both functionality and comfort. Starting with the interaction between people and nature, we maximized natural lighting and made use of previously underutilized areas. We introduced multiple functions—such as a music room, pet room, and dressing room—while extending the kitchen for improved usability. The cat room was placed in a well-lit area and enclosed with glass to channel sunlight and integrate the pets into everyday scenes. Through the reflective properties of mirrors and marble, the home evokes the feel of an elegant gallery. Soft curves at corners and a bright palette help create a joyful and natural living environment. We applied our “7:3 design rule,” balancing 70% of the plan around family lifestyle and 30% on spatial aesthetics, resulting in a thoughtfully curated living experience.

What is the “7:3 Rule of Life and Design”?

This principle means that 70% of our design focuses on lifestyle planning—providing functional, tailored living services that foster a new way of life—while the remaining 30% is dedicated to spatial style and aesthetics. At MADE GO DESIGN, our philosophy is to thoughtfully balance lifestyle planning with spatial styling in a 7:3 ratio.

Lifestyle Planning (70%):

Our process emphasizes understanding how people live. We deeply analyze clients’ daily habits, routines, and preferences to create personalized, functional layouts. Every corner of the space is optimized to maximize comfort and efficiency.

Spatial Style Design (30%):

The remaining 30% focuses on crafting the atmosphere and personality of the space. Beyond practical improvements, it’s about designing environments that are visually engaging and emotionally resonant. We carefully curate colors, textures, materials, and lighting to reflect the client’s character and tell a meaningful story through design.

By integrating lifestyle planning with spatial styling, we deliver true value in our work. Our 7:3 approach creates environments that are both highly functional and aesthetically compelling—offering comfort, elegance, and a strong sense of personal identity. We believe great design enriches everyday life, combining utility with emotional connection to deliver truly elevated living experiences.

Does MADE GO DESIGN have a signature design style?

Yes, MADE GO DESIGN’s style is warm, inviting, and deeply user-centered. Our goal is to create living environments that not only enhance comfort but also support people’s daily routines and habits. We aim to deliver spaces that improve quality of life while providing aesthetically pleasing and highly functional design solutions. At the core of our approach is a deep understanding of how people interact with and live in their spaces. We believe a well-designed home is not simply a collection of rooms—it is a sanctuary that aligns with and elevates the client’s daily rhythms and personal needs.

Functionality is a top priority in our design process. We meticulously plan layouts to maximize efficiency and usability, considering storage solutions, furniture arrangements, and flow of movement. We strive to craft environments that are both beautiful and livable—spaces where warmth, practicality, and personal identity coexist. Ultimately, we believe great design enhances life. By focusing on comfort, functionality, and each client’s unique needs, we create tailored spaces that foster a true sense of belonging and joy.

What do you consider the most important element when creating a space?

Spatial perception. The most essential element in creating a space is considering how people emotionally experience that environment. It involves designing and expressing the space in a way that fulfills the expectations and needs of its residents or users. Aesthetically, our design often incorporates warm color palettes and thoughtfully planned lighting to create not only a visually appealing environment but also a sense of calm and serenity. Imagine entering a home where every corner and every detail whispers a story. Walls painted in warm hues embrace you with comfort and welcome as you step inside. Carefully selected furniture and decorative elements serve practical purposes while also contributing to the overall ambiance—together, they form a harmonious symphony of texture and color.

What are your goals and vision for the future?

Our core mission is to continually innovate, challenge ourselves, and create spatial designs that seamlessly integrate into the residents’ lifestyles. We aim to craft artistic homes that go beyond defining a style—infusing functionality, beauty, and emotional connection into every space. Our approach to space creation transcends aesthetics. It’s about deeply understanding each client’s unique needs and preferences and transforming them into comfortable, productive, and joyful environments. Through ongoing innovation and exploration of new design frontiers, we strive to deliver spaces that not only meet expectations but exceed them—enriching the lives of those who inhabit them.
