Starting with considerations of how robots should look and behave to seamlessly integrate into domestic life, GRIP is a project that proposes a new direction for home robotics, which have traditionally focused on labor or non-physical interactions. GRIP redefines robots as sources of power capable of engaging in physical interactions with users in their homes. As a smart fitness robot, GRIP stands out for its interactive physical engagement, setting itself apart from conventional task automation. With its minimal design, GRIP acts as a modern decor when idle, minimizing space usage while offering a variety of workouts in workout mode.

GRIP은 로봇이 아직도 가정 내로 쉽게 들어오지 못하는 이유와 이를 극복하기 위해 로봇이 어떻게 변화하고 행동해야 하는지에 대한 질문에서 출발한 프로젝트입니다. 기존 로봇들은 가정 내 가사 노동이나 간단한 태스크에 집중하며, 사용자와의 상호작용은 주로 감정적인 교류에 한정됩니다. 이에 반해, GRIP은 가정용 로봇의 새로운 방향성을 제안합니다. GRIP은 로봇을 사용자와의 물리적 상호작용하는 파워 그 자체로 정의하는 피트니스용 로봇으로, 기존의 노동 중심적인 가정용 로봇과는 다른 접근을 제안합니다. 또한, 기존 로봇들이 기능적이고 때로는 생명체를 연상케 하는 모습으로 거부감을 일으키는 반면, GRIP은 아이들 상태에서는 공간 사용을 최소화하면서도 인테리어와 조화롭게 어우러지는 오브제 역할을 수행하며, 운동 시에는 각 팔의 자유도를 활용해 각 운동에 알맞는 폼으로 변하게 됩니다. GRIP은 사용자에 알맞는 무게 저항을 제공하여 운동을 도우며, 디스플레이에 위치한 AI 카메라는 사용자의 운동 능력을 분석하여 앱을 통해 개인 맞춤 운동 루틴과 적절한 무게 저항을 추천합니다. 추가로, 사용자들은 더 다양한 운동 경험을 위해 스탠드얼론 모듈을 설치할 수 있으며, GRIP의 컬러나 재질을 사용자의 인테리어에 맞게 커스터마이징할 수 있습니다.
