Korean schools use standardized meal trays, but students with developmental disabilities face difficulties using them.Through observations and interviews with special education teachers, we identified three key problems. First, students frequently drop utensils. Second, difficulty using chopsticks forces reliance on spoons, causing side dishes to mix. Third, shallow compartments make scooping food difficult. We designed a customized tray with a utensil holder to prevent dropping, food way to prevent mixing, and sloped compartments so food gathers to one side, enabling independent dining with only a spoon.

한국의 학교 급식은 점심시간에 학생들이 식판으로 배식을 받아 함께 식사하는 방식이 일반적입니다. 식판은 대부분 규격화되어 있어 학교마다 형태와 크기가 거의 동일합니다. 그러나 특수학교에서도 일반학교와 동일한 규격의 식판을 사용하고 있어, 발달장애 학생들은 급식 시간마다 여러 불편을 겪고 있습니다. 현장 관찰과 특수교사 및 발달장애 전문가 인터뷰를 통해 세 가지 핵심 문제를 확인했습니다. 첫째, 배식을 받고 이동하는 과정에서 수저를 쉽게 떨어뜨립니다. 둘째, 젓가락 사용이 어려워 숟가락에 의존하게 되며, 반찬을 긁어 모아 먹는 과정에서 다른 반찬과 섞이기 쉽습니다. 셋째, 식판의 깊이가 얕아 숟가락으로 음식을 떠먹기 어렵습니다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 발달장애 학생 맞춤형 식판을 디자인했습니다. 수저 고정 칸을 추가해 이동 중 수저가 떨어지는 문제를 줄였으며, 밥과 반찬 사이에 숟가락으로 반찬을 긁어 먹을 수 있도록 길을 만들어 반찬끼리 서로 섞이는 것을 최소화했습니다. 또한 반찬 칸에 경사를 적용해 음식이 자연스럽게 한쪽으로 모이도록 설계함으로써, 숟가락만으로도 보다 독립적이고 안정적으로 식사할 수 있도록 했습니다.
