A house cannot exist without a connection to the sky. This home is designed with that mission. Traditional Japanese townhouses (machiya) have central gardens that bring nature into daily life, fostering comfort, beauty, and respect for nature. Modern homes, however, often focus on functionality and disconnect from the environment. This house revives traditional wisdom. On a narrow urban plot, a central courtyard allows light and wind to flow, creating a strong connection to nature. With all rooms facing the courtyard, the space expands both horizontally and vertically, making the residents feel as if they are living within the vast sky.

空との物理的、抽象的、詩的な関係無く住宅は存在しえ得ない。その空と共にどう生きるかをミッションとした住まいです。伝統的な日本の町家には中央に庭があり、そこから自然を取り入れ、快適な暮らしや美意識や自然への敬意を育んできました。しかし、現代の住宅は機能性を重視し外界と隔絶しています。この家は古き良き知恵を生かした住まいです。隣家が迫る市街地の狭小敷地で、家の中央に中庭を設けることで光と風を室内に浸透させ、季節や時間によって変化する光と影が自然との深いつながりを感じさせます。すべての部屋が中庭と繋がることで、空間が水平だけでなく垂直にも広がり、最も大きな環境で有る空の中にいるような感覚を住む人に与えます。
